Finals of Shell Bachelor and Master Awards, February 14, 2012 Eindhoven University of Technology
The finals of the Shell Bachelor and Master Awards will be held at the Eindhoven University of Technology, in the Auditorium, Blauwe Zaal, Den Dolech 2 in Eindhoven on Tuesday February 14, 2012. This year no fewer than 7 candidates (4 MSc and 3 BSc) have been selected for the finals. On February 14 they will each endeavour to convince the panel of adjudicators, by means of an elevator pitch, that their sustainability and technology concepts deserve to win an Award.
The finalists are:
1. Jelmer van de Wiel, BSc, TUE, Realistic Modelling of Gas Turbine Power Plants
2. Martijn van Zanten, BSc, TUE, Cryogenic CO2 capture using dynamically operated packed beds
3. Iris Smal, BSc UT, Reducing polymerisation during the hydrodeoxygenation of pyrolysis oil
4. Maarten de Nier, MSc, TUD, Capturing Solar Energy as Hydrogen using Bismuth Ferrite
5. Serkan Esiner, MSc, TUE, Triple Junction Polymer Solar Cells
6. Thomas Vranken, MSc TUE, Nitride-based materials with Eu2SiN3 structure, as spectral conversion materials for LEDs and solar cells
7. Shushil Kumar, MSc UT, Biomass gasification in supercritical water: chemistry of decomposition of alcohols and acids
The programme on February 14 is as follows:
14:30 h – welcoming reception with coffee and tea
15:00 h – opening address and introduction of adjudicators by Mr. H. Roumen, Secretary of the Eindhoven University of Technology

16:45 h – adjudicators’ deliberations and final overview by Micha Wertheim, comedian
17:00 h – presentation of Awards by the Chairman of the panel of adjudicators
17:15 h – drinks reception
