Head and shoulders shot of Thomas being interviewed by an off-camera interviewer, followed by footage of Thomas crossing a road. We see various photographs from Thomas’s life. The first is him as a young boy, wearing glasses and a school uniform. The second shows him in a white lab coat with scientific equipment, then we see him presenting a lecture in front of a large whiteboard. There follows close-up footage of Thomas smiling and then of him climbing a hill, cheering whilst his photograph is taken, with a snow-covered mountain in the background.

[Thomas]

My name is Thomas and I’m an energy transition advisor. I was a smart kid. I studied physics, so I feel like I want to use that, especially concerning climate change.

[Video footage]

Footage of a yellow cornfield cuts to a time-lapsed shot of a sunset, the dense clouds rolling in front of an orange sun. We see a forest of fir trees. The sunlight is throwing white rays across them, then we see the sun dazzling through a close-up shot of the woodland. There’s a distant shot of a large hill with a thick forest in the foreground, the sun now peeking over a distant horizon.

[Thomas]

I would like to look back and know that I have contributed to one of the most complex and important challenges that we have now as a society.

[Video footage]

The head and shoulders shot of Thomas being interviewed by an off-camera interviewer returns. It cuts to footage of a large boat, an oil tanker, then a group of around 50 workers standing on a helipad with the ocean in the background. There’s follows a distant shot of the boat, making it appear small against the vastness of the surrounding water, then two more workers in hard-hats are discussing two large pipes going into the water.

[Thomas]

My father was very proud when I joined Shell, but he said, Shell’s core business is getting oil out of the ground, so you need to stick to the core business.

[Video footage]

Head and shoulder footage of Thomas’s interview again. Then a close-up shot of Thomas’s hands as he types on a laptop. This cuts to a shot of a windfarm, the turbines turning slowly against the green landscape and a blue skyline.

[Thomas]

I said, Dad, I want to be in the energy transition business, because that’s the future.

[Video footage]

Again, we see Thomas being interviewed, followed by footage of an eco-friendly energy farm. A sign reads, Powered by Hydrogen, then somebody is charging their car from a Shell RechargePlus point. A bar-chart is shown. Two men wearing special glasses are discussing a large map, and then we’re back to Thomas’s interview.

[Thomas]

So, I started in new business development, which is quite a commercial department, practising entrepreneurship, gathering funds [?] getting the right people on board and developing the technology. I would say there is a place for anybody who likes technology within Shell. Like, hey, come on, let’s make it go faster, let’s work towards the energy transition.
