You make the job your own
The moment you start your role, you’re encouraged to make it your own. You are handed responsibility and given the opportunity to show what you can do. My job revolves around plant automation, control and optimization, so I’m accountable for quite a lot. The systems I control range from quite basic to very advanced, and keeping everything in peak condition is vital to the overall running of the plant.
Everyone is approachable
One of the best things about working for Shell is that everyone is willing to help and assist. There are always new things to learn and different projects to focus on, and the people around me are constantly prepared to give advice and lend a helping hand. Managers and senior members are also very keen to hear new ideas, especially if they’ll help make our operations more efficient. If you have a plan to do something better, faster or cheaper, then speak out! Shell is constantly driving for improvements, so every suggestion is taken seriously.
A strong and appealing company culture
The company culture is one of my favourite things about working for Shell. People like to work hard, but there’s also plenty of time for social activities. We are all working together to achieve the same goals, but it’s also important to enjoy the time spent outside of work. The events team organises activities like mountain biking and skiing, so it’s much more than just going for drinks! We’re all aware that working hard is crucial, but there’s usually time for a quick game of football during the lunch break.
