Lindy and Babette walking together, intro of Shell Diaries
[Voice of Lindy]
We are Lindy and Babette. We both work at Shell. We make Shell Diaries to give you a look behind the scenes.
[Music plays]
Rhythmic medium-tempo music fades in.
Lindy and Babette sitting in a car.
[Voice of babette]
Hi, welcome to Shell Diaries. Today we are going to talk about NBS:
Nature Based Solutions. And Lindy, you know more about this.
[Voice of Lindy]
Yes. Nature based solutions are a direct
contribution to CO2 reduction in the world. NBS are projects that protect or redevelop natural eco systems. This way NBS projects generate CO2 credits.
[Voice of babette]
Sounds cool. We are going on the road, but first we have to pump gas.
[Voice of Lindy]
Yes, let's go.
Babette is fueling her car.
[Voice of Lindy]
While you are pumping gas, I have something more. Did you know that with one cent per litre, you can drive CO2 neutral at Shell?! You compensate your own usage.
Co2 neutral flag at Shell station.
[Voice of Lindy]
And Shell will pay the compensation from the delving of the oil up
until the pump.
A picture forrest with maps of Peru and Indonesia with project titles: Cordillera Azul and Katingan Mentaya.
[Voice of Lindy]
And the contribution will go to international certified CO2
compensation projects. Like in Peru or Indonesia. In the Netherlands we do not have this certified system yet.
Picture of a forest with the on top: Research by Shell, Staatsbosbeheer and others
[Voice of Lindy]
But Shell, Staatsbosbeheer and other partners are looking into this.
Babette sitting at the pump still fueling her car.
[Voice of Lindy]
Currently, 1 out of 6 fuel sessions are CO2 neutral.
Babette and Lindy sit in the car.
[Voice of Babette]
We are now in the car. Lindy is driving and focussed on the road, so
I will speak. We are going into the woods with Staatsbosbeheer and a few
colleagues to lend a hand. That's what we are going to do.
[Text displays]
Together we plant trees.
A forest with 2 man walking into it.
[Text displays]
Trees sometimes suffer from tendrils, when they get less light.
We’re helping out to remove the tendrils.
A group of people walking into the woods.
[Voice of Babette]
Madam, what are you doing?
[Voice of Lindy]
I am killing the flow of juices. At least that is what I heard him say…sort of.
Lindy is chopping off parts of a tree.
[Voice of Babette]
You are doing a good job.
Babette interviews Johan, forester from Staatsbosbeheer, in the forest.
[Voice of Babette]
I am here with Johan from Staatsbosbeheer.
We have a cooperation between Staatsbosbeheer and Shell. I heard something about an ash wood disease
and planting 5 million trees in the next 12 years. All important and interesting matters, can you tell more about it?
[Voice of Johan]
- For sure. The disease Essentaksterfte is a fungal infection that damages the
Ash. It originates from South-East Asia. It slowly entered Europe and became visible in 2020. At this moment it is so bad that we have to chop down a lot of
trees. Here in Flevoland we will lose at least 25% of our woods on this
Essentaksterfte. Shell supported us financially so that we don't have to plant a new
forrest. With the help of Shell, we can provide
these forests with new trees within the next 12 years.
[Voice of Babette]
Are we putting the same trees back, or other types?
[Voice of Johan]
Other types. We have learned from different locations. Not just with
the Ash. You should not plant a mono culture;
So not a single type tree forest. Stronger forests have many types of wood. So in case anything happens you still keep your forest’s climate.
Babette chopping branches.
[Voice of Lindy]
How does it feel to liberate a tree?
[Voice of Babette]
- It is nice! Save a tree! Save lives. That is what we are doing here.
[Voice of Lindy]
Hey Babette, did you know that on average a tree converts 1 ton CO2
per 1,1 m3. So, how many tonnes of CO2 is contained in 1 m3?
[Voice of Babette]
Uhm, 0,9?!
[Voice of Lindy]
Yes
[Voice of Babette]
I continue sawing...I continue sawing.
Lindy and Babette facing the camera standing next to each other.
[Voice of Lindy]
This was it again and we have learned a lot.
[Voice of Babette]
We have done a lot, very interesting.
[Voice of Lindy]
Definitely! This was our diary and we will see you next time.
Lindy and Babette walking away in the distance.

Shell Diaries
[Voice of Lindy and Babette]
Until the next one!
Bye!
We are on a mission. A hydrogen mission.
00:00
We are Lindy and Babette and we both work at Shell.
00:05
We also created 'Shell Diaries’, where we show you a glimpse behind the scenes of Shell.
00:14
We are very excited because today we will follow Marjan van Loon.
00:18
And you of course have some interesting facts, Lin.
00:20
Yes, I did some research ...
00:22
Marjan van Loon studied Chemical Engineering in Eindhoven.
00:27
This year she’ll have been working for Shell for thirty years,
00:30
and has been the President Director Shell Nederland since 2016.
00:36
Supercool!
00:38
This is the place. Let's see...
00:40
Hi!
00:41
Hi, how are you? - Very well!
00:43
Yes, nice to see you!
00:44
We are here to follow you today!
00:46
How nice! I hope you like it.
00:48
Do you want to sit down for a minute? -Yes, please!
00:51
A day as President Director Shell Nederland... What does that look like?
00:56
What does that look like...?
00:58
Well, occasionally I start the day exercising and after that I go into the office,
01:03
where I have a wide range of subjects to deal with.
01:06
The fun thing about Shell Nederland is that we have a lot of business components:
01:11
from refineries to wind parks. We deal with a wide range.
01:15
A lot of external work also...
01:16
I leave the office regularly to represent Shell.
01:22
That's also what I am doing this afternoon.. - Oh!
01:24
So if you girls want to come with me you are most welcome!
01:28
Are you coming with me? -For sure! Yes, let's do it!
01:30
So what is it that we will be doing exactly?
01:32
Today we will be doing something very nice!
01:35
We will announce a new partnership...
01:37
We will be sponsoring the olympic water team... - Wow!
01:42
with a few other companies.
01:43
How cool!
01:44
That's what we will announce today and it is linked to drawing attention for the Dutch hydrogen agenda.
01:50
Ah, hydrogen. - That's gonna be a lot of fun!
01:52
So, energy transition and olympic games and you get to come with me!
01:56
How cool is that? And your car is also running on hydrogen, right?
01:58
That's true, we are crossing the country on hydrogen.
02:01
And why hydrogen?
02:02
Well, a hydrogen car is like an electric car but it is creating it's own electricity.
02:07
It's nice to have such a car in my role because people then ask me these sort of questions,
02:12
and then you can have discussions about the energy transition and the importance of electricity and hydrogen.
02:20
Then we are right where we want to be - On topic!
02:22
Yes! Indeed!
02:23
Supercool! Well, let's go then!
02:25
But I won't need all this then? - No, that's all unnecessary indeed.
02:28
That's a bit of a disappointment, but okay… - Is it?
02:30
We have arrived at Kinderdijk where it all happens today.
02:34
Yep, Marjan had to excuse herself and we are going to have a look inside if we can be of help.
02:39
Yes, let's go!
02:40
Just in case Marjan get's thirsty...
02:45
Of course we will need to check thoroughly if everything is ready and working properly.
02:50
Hydrogen is an energy carrier and can be used for mobility among other things.
02:56
The Shell Rheinland refinery in Germany will be building the biggest electrolysis factory in the world.
03:01
The installation will be using green power to create hydrogen for their own use and that of others.
03:08
Working together..
03:10
is accomplished by bringing components together and steering it in the right direction.
03:16
From figuratively to literally.
03:17
Over here we have some components which we will be combined to become a beautiful surfboard,
03:25
this will symbolise the collaboration between NOC-NSF and Mission H2.
03:30
As a partner of team NL, Mission H2 will commit to letting the whole country get acquainted with hydrogen,
03:37
and its possibilities as a sustainable energy carrier.
03:40
Well, this is beginning to look like a surfboard right?
03:43
Almost! -Almost, right?
03:45
What are we still missing?
03:51
And with the completion of the surfboard we hereby confirm the partnership between NOS-NSF and Mission H2!
04:01
I think we have come to the end of the day. -Yes! Super nice!
04:04
Did you enjoy it? - Yes.
04:05
I have a tough job, don't you think?
04:07
A very, very tough job, yes! - Very tough, right?
04:09
No, but it was seriously very interesting.
04:11
And what we thought was really nice is that you especially dressed for the occasion.
04:16
Did you notice?
04:17
A bit of a water theme and a bit of Shell, see?
04:22
Really nice! Can't we accompany you more often?
04:26
Well, you are most welcome! - If you have a nice topic we will be there!
04:30
Good! - Super!
04:31
See you next time!
04:32
Bye!
04:42
I am really well prepared! I have my helmet, my overall and safety shoes and...
04:46
I can see that, yes. It looks like you really need it too!
The power of sun in India
00:00
Hi all! Welcome from warm sunny beautiful Mumbai.
00:04
And it's good that the sun is shining because that's what this D.I.D.O.S is all about!
00:09
We are Lindy and Babette.
00:10
We both work for Shell and together we make vlogs
00:13
called D.I.D.O.S.
00:20
We are here with Rajeev.
00:22
Where are we?
00:24
Yeah, first of all I welcome you to Mumbai, India.
00:26
Thank you!
00:27
We are at Shell's lubricant oil blending plant in Taloja,
00:30
which is near Mumbai.
00:31
I'll show you around the complete plant
00:34
and...I may request your help when we process the lube oil.
00:38
- To work! - OK!
00:39
And finally we can see the 'new' thing which is over there; our Solar project.
00:43
Aaaah! -Oh wow!
00:44
That is a big thing coming up, so it would be good to see.
00:46
I say... LET'S GO! -LET'S GO!
01:02
Doing a good job there, Lindy!
01:05
Yeah?
01:20
So tell us, what do you do here?
01:22
He's been a filling line operator for the last 15 years.
01:26
Ah!
01:26
The Care factor in Shell is very much alive
01:31
and it has helped him and his family to grow.
01:41
What is it that we see here?
01:43
This is solar. This is a PPA model
01:46
which we are implementing first in India.
01:49
Tell us a little bit about the solar panels?
01:53
Ok.
01:53
So this is very unique and the first time that India implements a subsidy-free PPA model
01:59
So when you get the solar energy all the lubricants will be cleaner produced?
02:04
Yes, of course. Anything we produce is green energy.
02:08
Wow, really amazing! Also to see it...
02:10
yeah, you can see there the entire roof
02:14
We are in the construction phase.
02:16
The panel is already constructed,
02:18
We are ready to commission it and very soon we can charge and generate energy
02:26
And it is really warm, so it will get a lot of energy! Yeah, yeah, yeah, in fact yes. Lots of sun!
02:49
I'm here with Sandeep from Cleantech. So Sandeep, what do we see?
02:53
What is this?
02:54
This is an inverter, so whatever power (solar) modules produces in form of DC power comes to this inverter,
02:59
it converts it into an AC power and sends it to the ACDB panel
03:11
Hi Pheroze!
03:11
Hi.
03:12
Can you tell us a bit about CleanTech?
03:13
Sure! So, we are a supplier of solar energy to corporate customers,
03:17
Shell being one of them,
03:19
and we are very proud because we recently entered into a strategic partnership with Shell New Energies
03:24
and we have just build their first solar project in all of Asia.
03:29
And that is what we just witnessed on the roof?
03:31
Yes, so it's a 550 kilowatt solar project.
03:35
It's going to deliver about half the facility's energy,
03:39
which is about a million units a year.
03:41
Oh, great!
03:42
I am here with Parag from New Energy. Can you tell us a bit more?
03:45
As you all know, power is a key pillar for our energy transition.
03:51
As New Energies we are trying to build the New Energies portfolio in power in Asia and the wider South-East Asia and India.
03:59
The other part that we do is help Shell sites solarize themselves
04:04
and reduce their carbon footprint.
04:06
Rajeev, thank you for showing us around. It's really appreciated.
04:09
What does solar mean to this facility?
04:12
So, in India the sun is a good source of energy.
04:16
The solar project, which is going to be installed will generate green energy
04:21
which is equivalent to 1 tree planted for every vehicle dispatched from this plant
04:25
We are doing some energy efficiency initiatives:
04:30
The CO2 footprint has been reduced
04:32
And one more is that we will be doing the tree plantation and we will request you also, to help us.
04:37
We can plant a tree?!
04:38
Yes, sure!
04:39
Ooo How nice! Let's plant a tree!
04:42
Ok!
04:51
Very good!
05:01
This was the end unfortunately, but really, it was such an amazing experience for us.
05:07
Thank you to all our colleagues!
05:09
Yeah, it is really great to see the cleaner energy solutions from so close by.
05:14
Don't forget to watch our other India video.
05:17
And see you next time!
05:20
Bye!
05:25
I feel like a solar panel right now...
05:29
That was really warm!
05:30
We had a lot of warmth and sun!
Innovaton from India
00:00
Hey! Welcome to another D.I.D.O.S.
00:03
from the airport in Bangalore, India.
00:05
We are going to check out the Shell Technology Centre Bangalore
00:09
to see how it is energised and what powerful stuff comes out of it.
00:17
We are Lindy and Babette.
00:19
We both work for Shell and together we make vlogs
00:22
called D.I.D.O.S.
00:24
What else? -Maybe we can get our hands dirty...
00:27
but first let's explore the city of Bangalore.
00:48
You wouldn't know it, but we are actually now at the Shell Technology Centre in Bangalore.
00:52
So I say, let's go and find out how the office gets their energy.
00:57
STCB runs for 70% solar power
01:00
through a supplier that has a large solar power capacity.
01:05
That's a CO2 reduction of 160,000 tons over 10 years.
01:10
So now we know where the energy is generated, let's see what they do with it.
01:14
We are here with Digvijay and he knows all about E4.
01:18
Tell us a bit more. What is E4?
01:20
It stands for Energising and Enabling Energy Entrepreneurs
01:24
and it is focussed on developing energy entrepreneurship here in India.
01:28
We want to help develop technologies which can help our energy-transition
01:33
for a more and cleaner energy future.
01:36
Alright! And it is right here in the office?
01:38
Yes! You have start-ups working here, we help them at the lab as well
01:41
and what really helps is that they can really accelerate their product development.
01:45
Can we take a look? - Yeah?
01:46
Yes, we can!
01:48
So this is where it all happens?
01:49
So this is really the start-up hub
01:51
and here we have a small snapshot of the start-ups that we worked with over the last 2 years.
01:58
We are going to the lab, so that means one thing...
02:01
There we go...
02:02
Taadaa!
02:03
Yes!
02:07
So this is the dedicated space that we created for our start-ups.
02:10
And I would like to introduce you to Kumar and Shyamal.
02:14
What are we seeing here?
02:15
Yeah! So, we have here the 3d printing capabilities.
02:18
Is it printing right now?
02:19
Yes, it is printing right now.
02:23
Very few start-ups will be born with, they may have an idea.
02:26
Depending on the application...
02:27
You can make anything?
02:29
Yes, almost anything.
02:30
Almost anything!
02:32
So you make the magic?
02:34
We try to support it.
02:36
Making the magic...
02:38
Right!
02:47
I'm here with Nivedha from Trashcon.
02:50
Can you tell us what is happening actually? What do we see?
02:53
Yes! So, let me take you through the entire journey.
02:55
So, what happens in India is that waste comes from the households,
02:59
the streets, the canteens, the hotels and almost every other place where municipal waste is being generated.
03:05
There's lots of tons of waste every day getting dumped and burnt.
03:09
We realised that the biggest root cause of the problem is that waste looks something like this.
03:14
This is called mixed waste.
03:16
And when waste is in this form nobody can recycle it.
03:20
We decided that there needs to be a solution.
03:22
So what we created is a technology that takes this waste
03:26
and segregates it automatically into biodegradable waste and non-biodegradable waste.
03:31
Show us! I'm going to switch on the machine.
03:39
Waste is first put into the dumping bin.
03:43
In this magnetic shoot metals, batteries and contaminants are removed.
03:48
The rest of the waste goes into the loading conveyer.
03:52
Now I dislodge the biodegradable from the cover
03:55
and I make this cover into small pieces.
03:57
This biodegradable material that is sticking onto it does not have a surface to sit on
04:02
And the biodegradable, which is there, which is extremely heavy and has a high moisture content
04:06
falls in these crates. -Ah, it falls down.
04:09
And out of this we generate this
04:11
Used in lawns, parks everywhere
04:15
and has really good C/N Carbon to Nitrogen ratio as well
04:17
The non-biodegradable, which is there pushed to the other end.
04:21
See how beautiful it is right?
04:24
This is magic!
04:26
So at the moment we recovered the plastics out of it.
04:28
It is then washed, cured, palletized and pressed to create these boards.
04:35
So these boards,
04:37
we use them in a number of applications. We use it for making tables and chairs
04:40
and making partition walls.
04:42
So, how does it link you to Shell?
04:44
First of all, we started our entire humble journey with Shell supporting us.
04:48
Our R&D was supported a lot by Shell.
04:51
They gave us the seed investment to start the entire workings. -ok...
04:54
They believed in our idea at a time when it was an impossible, you know, thought.
04:59
That was the start,
05:00
but however, we have a very strategic relationship with Shell.
05:03
I'm really genuinely impressed. Thank you for having us.
05:07
Wow!
05:08
Seriously, what an adventure...
05:10
Yes! This was really amazing!
05:11
So we've gone through the complete energy cycle
05:14
and have seen the amazing things that are happening with energy here in India.
05:30
Don't forget to check out our other vlog on India.
05:33
And we will see you soon again!
05:35
Bye bye!
05:35
Bye!
Some FreshAir for Lindy and Babette, paving a road in the Netherlands
00:00
Hi! Welcome to another DIDOS.
00:03
We are at a location where they are making a parking area.
00:08
I think about asphalt in that case. Lindy, do you have some fun facts?
00:12
For sure! I think about Bitumen.
00:14
In the Netherlands, 300 million kg Bitumen is sold each year.
00:21
Bitumen is the glue that makes the stone and sand into asphalt.
00:28
What is Bitumen?
00:29
It is a residue after processing crude oil.
00:34
Cool! So we don't throw that away? - No!
00:37
Wow, paving a road, do you think we can do that?
00:42
Hey! We are Lindy and Babette,
00:44
we both work at Shell and we make vlogs: D.I.D.O.S.
00:49
I am here with Audny
00:54
Why are we here?
00:56
We are here at Lelystad Airport. Shell is doing a pilot project with Dura Vermeer.
01:03
We are testing Bitumen FreshAir and GTL fuel.
01:07
To contribute together to a cleaner air quality.
01:11
And why is that important for Shell?
01:12
Well, Shell wants to contribute to more sustainability in the Netherlands.
01:17
Dura wants the same, and we can already do this with existing technology.
01:22
So we do not have to wait for later. But do it right now.
01:25
When you use this there a lot less particulate matter in the air.
01:30
And it smells a lot less. Improved smell.
01:32
Top! We can start.
01:35
Yes, roll up your sleeves. And smell for yourself.
01:39
I am very curious. Let's go!
01:40
I sit on the roller.
01:42
We are going to pave a road.
02:04
This was a very stressful moment.
02:08
We are checking now if the joint is done correctly.
02:13
The roller is now on top of it.
02:20
Maybe I have done it all wrong.
02:23
Look! What a beautiful joint!
02:27
It is beautful, isn't it? - Yes?
02:28
Don't you think so?
02:30
Yes, I think it is a nice joint.
02:31
I'm sitting here with Ruud.
02:36
I am curious, why is this important to you?
02:40
These developments are important to us, because they add to one of our most important goals.
02:48
Sustainability.
02:50
I can also imagine that it has impact for people as well.
02:53
Yes, it creates a cleaner workplace for safety and health of our people.
03:00
That is ideal for all, win-win.
03:05
Can you tell something about the collaboration with Shell?
03:08
Working together with Shell is a bundle of knowledge and know-how.
03:14
That we've built up over the last few years.
03:18
This is taken into advantage to develop these kind of ideas.
03:24
Being more innovative with better products.
03:28
We can see this coming to life here. - Yes, that is true.
03:33
We just helped to pave a road!
03:36
This is one of five tests in the world.
03:41
And as you are used from us: We were there!
03:45
After 2,500 tests in the lab and 5 on location.
03:49
The results are in and Babette has them.
03:54
Shell Bitumen FreshAir reduces on average the emission of specific gases and particulates
03:59
of the asphalt mix, by 40%.
04:02
This means, 1 km asphalt with Shell Bitumen FreshAir
04:08
equals planting 16 trees or taking 40 cars off the road.
04:12
I would say, mission accomplished. - Sounds super!
04:15
We are moving on, and we will see you at the next DIDOS.
04:23
I see another text within the results. - Did I miss something?
04:27
Dear Babette, your joint was so good...
04:32
that we would like to offer you a job.
04:34

Safety first! Sea survival training for Lindy and Babette
00:00
-Hi. -Hello.
00:02
-Welcome to a new D.I.D.O.S. -From the STC-KNRM training centre.
00:06
We're partaking in off-shore safety training.
00:09
-Do you have any info on safety? -Yes.
00:11
If you add up all the trainings within Shell,
00:17
there are more than ten thousand training days per year,
00:21
and that's just the helicopter trainings.
00:24
And all of these trainings, such as water survival and HUET,
00:28
are mandatory, with no exceptions.
00:32
So, we're not the only participants. Who are the others?
00:37
Hi, we're Lindy and Babette. We both work at Shell.
00:40
We make vlogs called D.I.D.O.S.
00:43
We're here with Harry Brekelmans, P & T director at Shell.
00:48
Really high up the ladder.
00:49
-Great guy. -So, Harry.
00:51
Many of our viewers don't work at Shell.
00:53
Could you explain to them what it is you do?
00:57
Shell sells energy products that are of great importance to humanity.
01:03
These products are made in factories, using certain technologies.
01:07
My people build those factories and develop those technologies.
01:10
-Is that clear? -Yes, I think so.
01:13
We're about to get to work. How do you feel?
01:18
I feel pretty good. It's a nice diversion from sitting in the office all day.
01:23
But I'm a bit nervous as well. It's quite exciting.
01:27
We also can't wait.
01:29
Does Harry receive the same training as everyone else?
01:33
Of course he does - there are no exceptions.
01:36
Right. So, what's going to happen exactly?
01:39
We're going to do some sea survival.
01:42
It's about how to survive should you end up in the water.
01:46
HUET stands for Helicopter Underwater Escape Training.
01:50
It's about how to escape from a sinking helicopter in case of an accident.
01:55
Why don't you join the sea survival training while you're here?
01:59
That'll give you an idea.
02:02
-Very gladly. -Super cool.
02:04
Do we get a bathing suit?
02:08
Yes, we have special suits for you.
02:09
OK, that's great.
02:12
It's not easy to breathe.
02:18
Here we go.
03:28
It's almost real.
03:30
This is the most exciting part.
03:33
The helicopter is lowered into the water, turns upside down, and then they get out.
03:38
This is this morning's highlight.
03:43
Give it your best, Harry.
04:04
And yes, there's Harry.
04:07
Well done, Harry.
04:13
-How was it? -Quite exciting. But it went well.
04:19
Imagine... this could really happen.
04:23
-Yes, it's pretty intense. -Yeah.
04:27
-Fortunately, I've practised it. -Yeah.
04:29
-OK. This was so awesome. -I have no words for it.
04:33
-We'll see you at the next D.I.D.O.S. -Thanks for watching. Bye.
04:42
Babette will do anything for this vlog -
04:44
ready position, phone at the right angle, she's focussed.
04:49
And now she's on to me.
Lindy and Babette are refueling with LNG. Cool stuff❄!
00:00
Hi, welcome to a new D.I.D.O.S. Today, we discuss LNG. What is LNG?
00:05
-Lindy knows these things. -LNG stands for Liquefied Natural Gas.
00:10
It's the gas we use for cooking, which liquefies at a very low temperature.
00:16
At minus 160 degrees Celsius, the volume shrinks some 600 times.
00:22
And that's it.
00:24
Hey, we're Lindy and Babette. We both work for Shell.
00:27
We create vlogs: D.I.D.O.S.
00:30
You know we like action.
00:32
We don't just talk, we're going to refuel with LNG.
00:36
For that, we needed to be trained. Let's go back in time.
00:53
Yes, we're on location.
00:56
-First, we'll have to... -Change.
01:01
This is our expert for today, Mathijs.
01:06
You had an urgent question. Ask it.
01:08
This is my question: We've learned that LNG is very safe.
01:13
Why do we need all this, when we are just refuelling?
01:17
It mainly protects you against the cold
01:20
and because we work with large volumes of gas here.
01:24
-That makes sense. -That sounds logical.
01:26
Where do we actually make LNG?
01:30
It's being made at various locations.
01:32
But the largest suppliers for the Netherlands
01:35
are Norway, Qatar, Algeria and Nigeria.
01:38
It's a little warmer there.
01:40
Can we use it to refuel our own vehicles?
01:43
No, LNG is meant as an alternative for heavy transport,
01:47
for shipping and road transport.
01:48
For passenger cars, there are other alternatives
01:51
like hydrogen, electric vehicles and so on.
01:55
-Great. -Wonderful.
01:58
I'd like to see how that works.
02:00
-Let's do it. -Let's go.
02:04
This man is expert number two. He is our trainer, Albert.
02:09
-Please show us what happens here. -Follow me, ladies.
02:27
Albert, help.
02:53
Bettie, are you alright?
02:55
My arm is cramping up, but we're not giving up.
03:19
We're witnessing an important moment. What's going to happen, Albert?
03:24
Babette is being presented with a certificate.
03:28
She has successfully completed the course.
03:32
Great!
03:34
-Show us. -Take a look.
03:36
"Driver."
03:38
It's been a great adventure, but we have one more question.
03:43
An urgent question. Marco, we've filled up the tank.
03:49
-Can you give us a lift? -Of course. Any time.
03:59
Seriously, I've never sat in a cabin before.
04:02
Here's Lindy.
04:08
And here's Marco.
04:12
There we are.
04:23
INTELLIGENT REMARKS
04:24
Bettie, tell him that you can't smell a thing.
04:28
I can't smell anything. Is that right?
04:37
We'll edit this in.
04:39
-That's pretty cold. -It's very cold.
04:42
Can I touch it or not?
04:44
Yes, you can. With your gloves on, of course.
04:49
I can't feel a thing.
Can a Shell microscope help to discover a Dutch masterpiece?
00:00
You're watching a new D.I.D.O.S., this time from the Mauritshuis.
00:04
We're Lindy and Babette. We both work for Shell and we make vlogs: D.I.D.O.S.
00:11
The Mauritshuis, and we're here with Sabrina.
00:16
What exactly is your role here? -I'm a restorer.
00:20
What does the Mauritshuis have to do with Shell?
00:23
Together with Shell, we're trying to date Jan Steen's paintings more accurately...
00:28
through scientific research, by analysing paint samples in the lab in Amsterdam.
00:34
You can have a look... -We will.
00:36
...in the workshop and the lab. -Cool.
00:39
So this is a real Jan Steen? -Yes.
00:42
I'm taking a paint sample from a green area near the edge.
00:47
There it goes.
00:50
This is the paint sample.
00:52
Now we'll take it to Ralph? -Yes, after it has been embedded.
01:01
It's cured. I'll put it in this container, so it can be ground with this machine.
01:06
Leave that Jan Steen to me.
01:12
Now it can go to Shell. -We'll see you in the lab?
01:15
We're off to Amsterdam. -But not like this. We'll have to go...
01:19
Incognito.
01:24
Here we go. Are you ready?
01:26
Where shall we put it? -In your pocket.
01:29
We're unrecognisable.
01:47
A gruelling journey. -But we've made it.
01:55
We can't go in dressed like this.
02:00
We're wearing lab outfits again.
02:03
And... -We've safely transferred it.
02:07
Ralph and Sabrina should be in the lab. -They are.
02:16
Thank you.
02:17
What will happen here?
02:20
We'll look at the composition of this sample with this very nice microscope.
02:25
I hope it will be interesting. -Throw him in, that Jan Steen.
02:34
This is a normal light microscope photo.
02:37
These blue particles are smalt: small pieces of blue glass.
02:42
They tend to lose their colour.
02:45
But it's also a good marker to find out in which period Jan Steen painted this.
02:52
We've zoomed in with the electron microscope.
02:56
In this image, all these green silicon particles are smalt.
03:01
Only a few are still blue, the rest is discoloured.
03:05
Behind us, the experts continue. Hopefully they can date the sample.
03:11
And we're off again. -See you in the next D.I.D.O.S.
03:20
It looks like a piece of stone. -It is.
03:24
Yes, a Jan stone. Smarty-pants.

[Lindy]
Hi everybody!
[Babette]
Hi!
[Lindy]
In this short video we are going to tell you a bit more about Shell Diaries...
[Babette]
Yes, ...and about who we are.
[Lindy]
And about who we are, which of course is pretty important.
[Babette]
Who are we?
[Music plays]
Swelling adventurous music
[Video footage]
Medium self-shot of Lindy and Babette walking in a park while talking to each other and waving at the camera.

SHELL DIARIES
[Voice of Lindy]
We are Lindy and Babette and we both work at Shell.
[Voice of Babette]
We also create 'Shell Diaries' where we give
you a glimpse behind the scenes at Shell.
[Music]
Music fades to background.
Medium self-shot with Lindy and Babette talking to the camera, sitting at a picnic table in a park.
[Lindy]
I have a question for you!
And I am very curious about what your answer will be!
Babette!
[Babette]
Yes, Lindy?
[Lindy]
What is our connection?
[Babette]
Our connection?
[Lindy]
Yes!
Question marks start appearing around Babette.
[Babette]
Erm?
No, we met at work.. We were both working in the HR team.
When Lindy joined us, the party immediately got started.
So our connection is actually Shell, but it turned into a friendship…
[Music plays]
Swelling romantic music starts fading in.
[Lindy]
Into something more...yes.
[Babette]
Yes. Real love..
[Lindy]
Started at Shell..
[Babette]
It's real love.
[Lindy]
Yes..
Medium self-shot of Babette and Lindy at picnic table where Babette keeps staring at Lindy and Lindy looks straight forward for a moment and then quickly looks at her paper.
[Audio]
Romantic music gets cut off by vinyl scratch sound.
[Babette]
So how did 'Shell Diaries' actually originate?
[Lindy]
Within Shell there was a call for a Vlogger. One Vlogger!
[Babette]
One..
[Lindy]
There were multiple colleagues who told us: You girls should do this....but only together.
Internally we did need to convince some other people about that…
So we made a very fun test video.. And eventually everybody was convinced.
So we now do this next to our daytime job.
[Babette]
Yes!
[Lindy]
Our real job. This our side-job now.
[Babette]
Yes!
And it's super fun, of course!
So do you have another question for me?
[Music]
Upbeat jazzy joyful music fades in softly.
[Lindy]
Yes, yes, yes.. Name 3 things about us that people might not know.
and let it be only fun things please...
[Babette]
Well, we are both addicted to sneakers… We both have an insanely lot of them.
[Babette and Lindy together]
And we both have a lot of the same, yes!
[Babette]
The Vlogs we make are never scripted, it's mostly just spontaneous one-takers.
In the beginning we needed to adjust and school ourselves a bit. So there is this one Vlog that we...
[Lindy and Babette together]
That we still think is one of the best...
[Babette]
but eventually never saw the light of day..
[Lindy]
No..
[Babette]
because there was some stuff in there that wasn't so good.
[Music]
Upbeat jazzy joyful music transitions into the adventurous intro music
[Lindy]
We hope you guys really enjoyed this. Learning a bit more about us.
We will obviously continue to make new 'Shell Diaries', and we hope you will keep watching them.
[Babette]
Yes!
[Marjan]
See you all later!
[Babette]
Bye!
[Music]
Adventurous music swells.
Wide shot of Babette and Lindy walking in the park towards the sunset.
[Text displays]
SHELL DIARIES
[Music]
Adventurous music fades out.
Medium self-shot with Lindy and Babette talking to the camera, sitting at a picnic table in a park.
[Lindy]
...and then most of the time I think...
[Babette]
a day before...
[Lindy]
...a day before about the know-hows…
[Babette]
Can we really say that? A day before?
[Lindy]
(whispering) Well, we will just cut it out....

Lindy
