Als het op 14 maart van dat jaar opengaat, is het met 76.000 zonnepanelen en 27 megawatt piekcapaciteit direct een van de grootste van het land.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESindsdien is er veel gebeurd in de energietransitie van Nederland, ook in de schaal van de projecten. In april 2026 opende het tot nu toe het grootste zonnepark: in de Eekerpolder in Groningen, met maar liefst 311.742 panelen en 7,2 keer meer stroomproductie dan het zonnepark Moerdijk. Dat blijft overigens na de overname gewoon leveren aan Shell Chemicals Park Moerdijk, en zo bijdragen aan het beperken van de CO\u003Csub\u003E2\u003C/sub\u003E-uitstoot van de productielocatie.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Ch2\u003E\u003Cb\u003E\u003Ca id=\"koegorspolder\"\u003E\u003C/a\u003EShells grootste zonnepark in Nederland\u003C/b\u003E\u003C/h2\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EShell zat zelf na 2019 eveneens niet stil: \u003Cb\u003EHeerenveen-Zuid\u003C/b\u003E en \u003Cb\u003EEmmen-GZI Next \u003C/b\u003Eopenen in 2020. In Terneuzen bouwt Shell twee zonneparken: \u003Cb\u003ESas van Gent-Zuid\u003C/b\u003E (2022) en Koegorspolder (2023) — samen leveren ze aanvankelijk meer dan de helft van de 200 megawatt die de gemeente Terneuzen had gepland aan zonnestroomproductie. Ofwel, ruim een derde van wat heel Zeeland voor het jaar 2030 aanvankelijk had afgesproken. Pas later zijn die cijfers verder opgekrikt.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cb\u003EKoegorspolder is uiteindelijk Shells grootste zonnepark in Nederland\u003C/b\u003E, met 128.304 zonnepanelen en 71,2 megawatt piekvermogen. Het is bovendien het eerste zonnepark dat rekening houdt met netcongestie. Het noordoostelijke deel van het zonnepark (Tractaatweg) is gekoppeld aan de stroomnetaansluiting van het nabijgelegen Windpark Koegorspolder, terwijl het zuidwestelijke deel (Sluiskil) stroom levert via de verbinding van Yara Sluiskil. Dat is in 2023 uniek en technisch een uitdaging.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Ch2\u003E\u003Cb\u003E\u003Ca id=\"pottendijk\"\u003E\u003C/a\u003EUniek: energiepark Pottendijk\u003C/b\u003E\u003C/h2\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EUniek geldt ook voor energiepark \u003Cb\u003EPottendijk\u003C/b\u003E, dat in 2023 in Emmen opengaat. Het \u003Cb\u003Eis Shells enige Nederlandse windpark op land\u003C/b\u003E en bovendien gecombineerd met een zonnepark. Met 14 windturbines en 90.000 zonnepanelen heeft het een piekvermogen van 100 megawatt, met elk deel verantwoordelijk voor de helft daarvan.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EBij energiepark Pottendijk wordt rekening gehouden met de \u003Cb\u003Eleefgebieden en broedseizoenen\u003C/b\u003E van vogels, vissen en amfibieën. Een ecologische deskundige met kennis van de poelkikker en modderkruiper begeleidde de bouw van het park. Een brug tussen de Motodrome en het zonnepark zorgt ervoor dat de watergang blijft fungeren als vliegroute van vleermuizen. Zo krijgt op Sas van Gent-Zuid zelfs groot wild de ruimte, zo ontdekte toenmalig Shell-woordvoerder en hobbyfotograaf Wendel Broere bij een vroeg winters werkbezoek.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003E“Ik maakte een paar foto’s van de vijver in het midden van het park, waarbij ik de contouren van de Canadese ganzen kan onderscheiden die mij bij aankomst hadden begroet. Ik loop zo stil mogelijk verder, terwijl bevroren grassprieten onder mijn voeten kraken. De zon begint de boomtoppen rond het zonnepark te verlichten en verdrijft de mist. Plots ontdek ik twee reeën, die me vanonder de zonnepanelen recht aankijken.”\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Ch2\u003E\u003Cb\u003E\u003Ca id=\"productie\"\u003E\u003C/a\u003ERelatief beperkt in Nederland en Europa\u003C/b\u003E\u003C/h2\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cb\u003EMet uiteindelijk 204,2 megawatt in zon en 50 megawatt in wind op land, blijft het Shell-aandeel in groene stroom van zon en wind op land relatief beperkt in Nederland.\u003C/b\u003E In heel Europa gaat het om circa 500 megawatt. Ter vergelijking: een stad als Rotterdam of Amsterdam heeft jaarlijks 685 tot 915 megawatt aan opwekcapaciteit nodig.
