Eerste belangrijke levering project Skyline
20 apr. 2021

Project skyline is about upgrading our cracking furnaces.
In the middle, you see sixteen old cracking furnaces with brown pipes.
They will be replaced with eight modern cracking furnaces with double the capacity. The other eight furnaces will be demolished.

[Voice of Richard Boll]
What's great about this project, besides the improvements on the furnaces is that CO2 emissions are being reduced by 10%.

And that's an important first milestone for the decarbonization of site Moerdijk.

In September last year, Richard Zwinkels announced that project Skyline was a go.

And we've reached a new milestone:

Sequence of time lapse shots of several workers in PPE and a crane unloading the radiant coils.

The first pieces of equipment arrived on the site, the radiant coils.
Especially the radiant coils contribute to the doubling of capacity.
And that is the heart of the furnaces…

...that we want to realise with project Skyline.

These radiant coils were ordered about a year ago.

Obviously, after the engineering was finalised and all components were welded together in the manufacturing process. Here we have four of those modules.
And each module weighs about 5.8 tonnes. Four modules together go into one furnace.
Some closer shots of the modules are shown.
[Voice of Richard Boll]
The weight is critical, because the coils will be built on the existing foundation.
During the fabrication process…

...each component has been weighed and after the assembly it is weighed again to be sure the weight stays within the weight tolerance.
In addition to the right weight, quality is also essential.

Inspection carried out various hydrotests and inspections.

[Voice of Richard Boll]
Salient detail is that the inspections of the coils took place during corona.
We used a live connection for that so Inspection could examine and check the coils in the production halls. This way, they were able to secure the quality.

In total, we'll receive 32 of these packages
that will cover an area of about 700 square meters.

It's important to protect the coils, that's why they're wrapped in plastic.

Here lies the heart of the cracking furnaces, the radiant coils.
Ready for transport. Now, we move on to the next components of the furnaces and supporting elements.
