The Sound of Shell orchestral adaptation featuring keys and strings.
There’s a change in the air. You can’t see it, hear it or feel it – but it’s there.
White flash transition to low angle blurred footage of the sun shining through the green leaves of a tree. Long shot of a flock of seagulls flying over shimmering blue ocean water below cloudy blue sky.
It’s there every time we walk through our cities.
Medium profile-view footage of a woman crossing a pedestrian crossing on a city street at night.
It’s there when we find new ways to bridge the boundaries between us.
Tracking footage of a runner, seen from behind, jogging over a steel footbridge.
It’s there when we create, transport and connect, when we build, when we forge new paths, when we create new opportunities for those who need them most.
Time lapse aerial footage of traffic coursing around Wongwian Yai roundabout in Bangkok. Low-angle time-lapse footage of a crane arm turning against a sunset sky. Tracking bird’s eye view of a cyclist, seen from behind, riding along a straight stretch of surfaced road between crop fields with the sun shining brightly in the sky above. Tracking bird’s eye view of a cyclist, seen from behind, riding along a single-lane country road between rice paddies; in the misty background, we see palm trees and other vegetation below a pink and grey hued sky.
We all need to be aware that we’re affecting the air around us. We all need to do our part to keep our air as clean as possible.
Bird’s eye view of traffic coursing on the multiple levels of a city interchange with a smoggy city skyline seen in the background. Time-lapse panoramic bird’s eye view of white clouds racing through a bright blue sky, casting shadows over the vast cityscape below.
With every road we lay, progress continues, but its ingredients are changing.
Aerial footage of an interchange in a roadway bridge crossing over a vast bay. Tracking bird’s eye view of a car, seen from behind, driving along a roadway bridge which curves around a mountainous coastline.
With research, creativity and commitment, we’re working on paving our way to a cleaner future, and a positive change is already here.
Point of view footage of a fast-approaching tunnel road entrance to a short tunnel through rock, with trees and vegetation growing along the road and over the rocky, mountainous area. Slightly zooming aerial footage of a roadway bridge crossing over a vast bay. Slow-motion low-angle footage of a small boy running towards the shot on a surfaced road with farmland and green vegetation either side of the road, and we see the sun shining low in the sky behind him.
We focused our research on air quality and developed a new kind of bitumen – one that’s kinder to our air.
Time lapse footage of rays of sun shining down through pillars of cloud over an urban landscape surrounded by mountainous terrain. Panning high-angle close-up footage of an asphalt surface with white road markings.
During construction, this new bitumen can help cut air quality emissions by 40% on average.
Aerial footage of an excavator on a road construction site, its arm swinging around to dump its load of sand.
Lower emissions mean cleaner air for people paving the roads we drive on, cleaner air for everyone living and working nearby, a breath of fresh air for whole communities.
Aerial footage of an asphalt delivery vehicle dumping its load into a feeder, with the paver behind the feeder laying the asphalt on a suburban road flanked by green lawns and trees. Footage of motorbikes and vehicles crossing a rural town intersection while power lines can be seen crisscrossing the street against the blue sky, and green trees can be seen lining the street. Medium footage of four older men sitting at a picnic table, talking and laughing together, and with the green foliage of trees forming the background.
We’ve spent a century shaping the future of global infrastructure and we’re determined to keep improving and innovating.
Panning panoramic bird’s eye view of a canal running along the shore, with a highway separating the two; green lawns and trees in autumn colours flank the waterway, and at the horizon, we see a city skyline below pale blue sky.
We all have a responsibility to find new ways of being kinder to the air around us.
Panning close-up footage of the legs and feet of pedestrians as they cross a city street at a zebra crossing, and we see cars passing on the intersecting street in the background.
Standing still isn’t an option.
Aerial footage of an F1 Ferrari as the pit crew step back from the vehicle and it pulls away from the pit stop.
The future we see is more creative, more committed and cleaner.
Extreme close-up profile-view of a woman looking towards the horizon, the wind blowing wisps of hair across her face. Low-angle medium footage of a little girl wearing a bike helmet and riding her bike along a road lined with green shrubs and trees, with an older man running along beside her, guiding her with a hand on her back as the lowering sun beams across the scene. Slow motion footage of an arm stretched out of the window of a moving car; we see the sun at the horizon, sending light rays across green fields, the rays occasionally broken by the position of the hand stretched across centre-frame.
That change is already in the air.
Tracking low-angle long shot of a plane taking off from a runway surrounded by green grass and rising into a clear blue sky.
And it’s only just beginning.
Tracking medium profile-view footage of a woman walking along a railing beside a city waterway at dusk, and we see lights shining from tall city buildings in the background, before dissolving to a white background on which text displays at frame-centre.

Bright, uplifting music.
Cityscape, port, factory zone. Countries around the globe. Cleaner Solutions tag. Cars on the street. Shell laboratory with researchers. Road paving scene. Community gathered in front of a road paver. Cars driving down the road.
Roads and vehicles are the heartbeat of every modern city, facilitating the movement of people and goods.
But with urbanisation comes an increase in transport demand and industrial activity, which can lead to worsening levels of air quality.
The World Health Organisation estimates that most of the world’s population lives in places with air quality below acceptable levels.
Industries need to demonstrate cleaner operations or risk relocation away from urban cities.
Asphalt plants located far away from cities make road surfacing operations and supply chains more complex.
More governments across the globe are implementing stringent targets to monitor and reduce air pollution.
Cleaner ways of working are needed to ensure air quality guidelines are met.
Everyone plays a part.
At Shell, we help to keep the world moving with more and cleaner solutions for our customers.
Created in our world class R&D Centre and tested in four major locations.
We have developed a new bitumen solution to minimise the impact of road paving on local air quality.
We are the first major supplier of bitumen to focus our efforts on air quality improvement.
Our tests showed that Shell Bitumen FreshAir reduced the levels of sulphur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), volatile organic compounds (VOC), particulate matter (PM) and carbon monoxide (CO) by an average of 40% during asphalt production and road paving when compared to conventional bitumen.
Shell Bitumen FreshAir is an innovative bitumen solution which can help our customers make a positive change and reduce impact of air quality in the communities where they operate.
Shell Bitumen FreshAir.
Paving the way for a cleaner tomorrow.
