Thomas de Boer begonnen als president-directeur Shell Nederland
Vandaag, 1 september 2026, is de eerste werkdag van Thomas de Boer als president-directeur van Shell Nederland. "Een bijzonder moment waar ik enorm naar heb uitgekeken," zegt hij zelf.
De Boer begon zijn carrière bij Shell meer dan 25 jaar geleden, in Sales & Marketing in Rotterdam. Daarna had hij veel andere rollen, die hem onder meer naar San Francisco, Londen en Denemarken brachten. In het Scandinavische land was hij voor de Shell-groep de vice-president Renewable Natural Gas. Het zou zijn laatste rol zijn voordat hij in juni werd benoemd tot de nieuwe landenbaas van Shell Nederland.
"Door de jaren heen heb ik van dichtbij gezien hoe belangrijk energie is voor mensen, bedrijven en onze samenleving," zegt De Boer. "Dat is ook waar Shell Nederland iedere dag aan werkt: we leveren de energie die vandaag nodig is, terwijl we bouwen aan het energiesysteem van morgen."
De kracht van Nederland
De Boer zegt vertrouwen te hebben in de kracht van Nederland. "We hebben een sterke industrie, innovatieve bedrijven, talentvolle mensen, kennisinstellingen van wereldklasse en een strategische ligging. Nederland heeft alles in zich om ook in de toekomst een sterk en concurrerend industrieland te blijven."
De uitdaging is om concurrentiekracht en verduurzaming hand in hand te laten gaan, vind De Boer. "Juist daar zie ik kansen. Voor Nederland, maar ook voor Shell. Door te investeren in de energievoorziening van vandaag én mee te bouwen aan oplossingen voor morgen kunnen we bijdragen aan een sterke industrie, energiezekerheid en economische weerbaarheid."
Thomas de Boer volgt Frans Everts op, die na 37 jaar bij Shell verder gaat als CEO bij TenneT.

Today, 1 September 2026, marks Thomas de Boer’s first day as President and Country Chair of Shell Netherlands. “A very special moment that I had been eagerly awaiting,” he says.
De Boer began his career at Shell more than 25 years ago in Sales & Marketing in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He subsequently held a wide range of other roles, which took him to locations including San Francisco, London and Denmark. In the Scandinavian country, he served as Vice President of Renewable Natural Gas for the Shell Group. It would be his final role before being appointed as the new country chair of Shell Netherlands.
“Over the years, I have seen first-hand just how important energy is for people, businesses and society,” says De Boer. “That is also what Shell Netherlands pursues every day: providing the energy needed today while helping to build the energy system of tomorrow.”
Confidence in the Netherlands
De Boer says he has confidence in the strength of the Netherlands. “We have a strong industrial base, innovative businesses, talented people, world-class knowledge institutions and a strategic location. The Netherlands has everything it takes to remain a strong and competitive industrial nation in the future.”
The challenge, De Boer believes, is to ensure that competitiveness and sustainability go hand in hand. “That is precisely where I see opportunities. For the Netherlands, but also for Shell. By investing in today’s energy supply while helping to develop the solutions of tomorrow, we can contribute to a strong industry, energy security and economic resilience.”
Thomas de Boer succeeds Frans Everts, who, after 37 years with Shell, has moved on to become CEO of TenneT.
