Shell heeft haar eerste hybride station voor het vrachtverkeer in Nederland geopend. Eindhoven Acht is de eerste Shell-trucklocatie in Nederland voor alle vormen van energie die onderweg nodig zijn. Zo zijn er bij Shell Eindhoven Acht traditionele en hernieuwbare diesel verkrijgbaar, en ook bio-LNG en vanaf vandaag ook snelladers voor e-trucks.
Eindhoven Acht is voor chauffeurs tevens de plek voor een korte of langere rijpauze, een warme of koude snack, een drankje, en de mogelijkheid om even bij te praten met collega's, "de baas" of het thuisfront. Na het bijtanken, opladen én eventueel de Truckwash kunnen de wagen en de chauffeur weer fris de weg op.
Groter Europees netwerk
“Onze eerste energiehub in Nederland voor het vrachtverkeer is bedoeld om een duidelijk signaal af te geven dat wij hier toekomst in zien,” zegt Aleid van der Wiel, hoofd Energieproducten bij Shell Mobility. “De trucklocatie Eindhoven Acht is de eerste in een groter netwerk van Shell hybride stations langs de grote vrachtroutes voor het wegverkeer in Europa. Een hub waar we niet alleen traditionele brandstoffen aanbieden, maar ook de koolstofarme brandstoffen. En natuurlijk elektrisch laden, wat nu echt een trend wordt voor het zware wegvervoer.”
Hernieuwbare diesel, bio-LNG en elektrisch rijden
Transporteurs die willen verduurzamen, kunnen dat nu al door hernieuwbare diesel direct te gebruiken in hun dieselmotoren. Bio-LNG is een andere mogelijkheid. Het past in bestaande LNG-motoren, en vrachtwagens op (bio-)LNG mogen langer de binnensteden in om winkels te bevoorraden omdat ze schoner en stiller zijn dan conventionele dieseltrucks. Zowel Shell Renewable Diesel als Shell BioLNG verminderen de CO2-uitstoot, in het verbruik en/of in de productie.
Recente technologische vooruitgang heeft elektrisch rijden ook voor het zware wegtransport aantrekkelijk gemaakt. De grote vrachtwagenfabrikanten komen allemaal met nieuwe modellen op de markt. Vanaf Eindhoven liggen Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Antwerpen en het hele Ruhrgebied gemakkelijk binnen bereik van de e-trucker.
Strategisch gelegen
Shells Aleid van der Wiel: “We helpen bedrijven ook graag met elektrisch laden op hun eigen terrein, maar daar heeft niet iedere ondernemer de fysieke- en of investeringsruimte voor. Bovendien past het vaak niet in het stroomcontract, of gooit een overvol elektriciteitsnet roet in het eten. Voor die ondernemers – en voor vrachtwagens die onderweg moeten bijladen of opladen – is de strategisch gelegen energy hub Eindhoven Acht ideaal.”
Shell opens first truck service station supplying all energy types in Eindhoven, The Netherlands
Shell has opened its first hybrid truck service station in the Netherlands, in the southern city of Eindhoven. “Eindhoven Acht” is Shell’s first truck station to offer logistics and transport companies all types of energy. They include traditional and renewable diesel, bio-LNG and as of today: EV fast chargers for e-trucks.
For truck drivers “Eindhoven Acht” is the place to be for a shorter or longer break, a warm or a cold snack, a beverage, and the chance to banter with colleagues, chat with the “the boss” or call home. After fuelling up, charging and possibly using the Truckwash, vehicle and driver can hit the road refreshed.
Bigger European network
“Our first energy hub in the Netherlands for road transport is meant as a clear signal that we see future potential,” says Aleid van der Wiel, Head Energy Products at Shell Mobility. “The truck stop of “Eindhoven Acht” is the first in a larger network of Shell hybrid stations along major European freight routes. A hub that offers both traditional fuels, as well as low-carbon fuels. And, of course, EV charging, as this is becoming the trend for heavy-duty road transport.”
Renewable diesel, bio-LNG and battery-driven electric mobility
For transport companies aiming to become sustainable, a few “fast” options are available already. One of them is renewable diesel, easy to use in standard diesel engines. Bio-LNG is another possibility. It is a drop-in fuel for existing LNG engines. Moreover, in the Netherlands, for example, lorries powered by (bio-)LNG are allowed to supply inner city shops and supermarkets in early mornings and evenings as they are quieter and cleaner than conventional diesel trucks. Both Shell Renewable Diesel and Shell BioLNG reduce CO2 emissions, either during usage and/or in production.
Recent technological advances have made battery-driven e-trucks an attractive option in logistics. Primary truck manufacturers are all launching new models. For the e-trucker reloading in Eindhoven, all major Dutch and Belgian cities, the entire Ruhr region in Germany and even Paris are within reach.
Strategically located
Shell’s Aleid van der Wiel: “We are happy to provide EV chargers to companies for use on their own sites. But not every entrepreneur in logistics and transport has the physical or financial possibility to implement this. Often on-site EV-chargers do not fit within the boundaries of the company’s power supply contract, or grid congestion spoils the party. For those entrepreneurs – and for trucks needing to recharge on the go – the strategically located energy hub of “Eindhoven Acht” can be ideal.”
