Nederland haalt wind-op-zee doel van 4,5 GW met windpark Hollandse Kust Noord
Op 18,5 kilometer voor de kust van Egmond aan Zee is 20 december windpark Hollandse Kust Noord operationeel geworden. Nu kan de overdrachtsfase van start en voegt CrossWind, een samenwerking van Shell en Eneco, 759 MW aan duurzame energie toe aan het Nederlandse elektriciteitsnet. Met de oplevering van Hollandse Kust Noord realiseert Nederland zijn doelstelling van ruim 4,5 GW wind op zee voor het einde van 2023.
CrossWind heeft met Hollandse Kust Noord een subsidievrij windpark gebouwd dat naar verwachting minimaal 3,3 TWh aan elektriciteit voor de Nederlandse kust zal produceren. Dit komt overeen met 2,8 procent van de nationale elektriciteitsbehoefte. Samen met andere windparken op zee, waaronder Borssele en Hollandse Kust Zuid, voorzien we momenteel in 15,8 procent van de Nederlandse elektriciteitsbehoefte. Een doel dat ruim 10 jaar geleden werd afgesproken in het Nederlandse Energieakkoord in de Routekaart 2023.
Aandacht voor mens, natuur en milieu
Nederland heeft een unieke aanpak als het gaat om wind op zee, met aandacht voor mens, natuur en milieu. In de offshore wind park tenders en uitvoering wordt steeds meer rekening gehouden met innovatie en ecologische aspecten, zoals bijvoorbeeld beschermende maatregelen voor vogels en specifieke technieken om de impact voor het zeeleven te beperken.
Groei in efficiëntie windparken
Goede coördinatie heeft de ontwikkeling van windparken in afgelopen 10 jaar aanzienlijk versneld, waardoor gestandaardiseerde aansluitsystemen mogelijk werden. Dit heeft geleid tot een verbeterde efficiëntie in aansluiting op zowel het hoogspanningsnet als de platformen op zee. Daarnaast heeft de Nederlandse overheid een succesvolle one-stop-shop benadering geïmplementeerd, waardoor de risico’s en kosten voorafgaand aan aanbestedingen zijn verminderd.
Wind
Samen met partners bouwen en exploiteren we windparken op zee. Met meer dan vijftig jaar ervaring op de Noordzee, met het uitvoeren van complexe projecten en met de daartoe benodigde kennis.
Samenwerking
Het succesvol realiseren van de Nederlandse wind-op-zee doelen was alleen mogelijk dankzij goede samenwerking tussen windparkontwikkelaars, overheid, leveranciers, NGO’s en talloze andere betrokken partijen. Ondanks uitdagingen in bijvoorbeeld de toeleveringsketen liggen er ook talrijke kansen om de succesvolle aanpak verder uit te rollen Nederland heeft bewezen dat het mogelijk is. Zo zijn op dit moment al weer twee volgende windparken in ontwikkeling.

Het plan voor de Routekaart 2023 is daarmee van A tot Z uitgevoerd zoals het is bedacht, waarbij iedere partij vanuit zijn eigen expertise heeft kunnen zorgen voor versnelling en kostenverlagingen voor wind op zee. Die ervaring nemen we al volop mee in de aansluiting van de nieuwe windparken die onderdeel zijn van de volgende Routekaart voor 2030.”

The Netherlands hits offshore wind target of 4.5 GW with Hollandse Kust Noord wind farm
The Hollandse Kust Noord wind park, located 18.5 kilometres off the coast of Egmond aan Zee, became operational on December 20. The wind farm was built by CrossWind, a joint venture between Shell and Eneco. It will add 759 MW of renewable energy to the Dutch electricity grid after final commissioning. The completion of Hollandse Kust Noord will achieve a target in the Netherlands of more than 4.5 GW of offshore wind by the end of 2023.
With Hollandse Kust Noord, CrossWind has built a subsidy-free wind park that is expected to produce at least 3.3 TWh of electricity. This corresponds to 2.8 percent of electricity demand in the Netherlands. Hollandse Kust Noord, together with other offshore wind farms including Borssele and Hollandse Kust Zuid, currently supply 15.8 percent of the Netherlands' electricity needs, a goal that was agreed more than 10 years ago in the Dutch Energy Agreement in its “Roadmap 2023”.
Respect for people, nature and environment
The Netherlands has a unique approach when it comes to offshore wind with a focus on people, nature and the environment. Innovation and ecological aspects are increasingly being taken into account in offshore wind farm tenders and in their implementation, such as protective measures for birds and specific techniques to limit the impact on marine life.
Wind farm efficiency growth
Good coordination has significantly accelerated the development of wind farms over the past 10 years, enabling standardised connection systems. This has led to improved efficiency in connections on both the high-voltage grid and the offshore power platforms. In addition, the Dutch government has implemented a successful “one-stop-shop” approach, reducing risks and costs prior to tenders.
Cooperation
Achieving the Dutch offshore wind targets was only possible thanks to good cooperation between wind farm developers, government, suppliers, NGOs and the countless other parties involved. Despite challenges, such as in the supply chain, there are many opportunities to roll out this successful approach again. The Netherlands has proven that it is possible, with two more wind farms currently under development.
