We are here at Shell Pernis at the RTA department. We are standing in the Girbotols factory. Here we remove the sulphur components from the propylene and propane flows of the Catcracker.

To put it in other words: by de-sulfurizing these products we prevent our sandwich bags smelling like rotten eggs.

At the beginning of this year, during a major maintenance, we found out that the column C3201...

...was really outdated and needed to be replaced.

So we set up a project, which we executed in the past week,

where we replaced the old column with a brand new one; C3201.

We are dealing with enormous weights in a running factory, with big cranes

and a lot of transport movements. That really requires thorough preparation.

The challenges in this project were mainly to get the job completed

in this very compact area,

at multiple heights, with very diverse activities,

What makes this project so special

is that we’ve very recently, actually in April to be exact, made the decision to replace this column.

This meant that, between April and November, something that would normally take 24 months to do,

That's really a remarkable achievement for a big team. A lot of people were involved.
