Groene waterstof van Shell voor bussen in Groningen en Drenthe

Bussen van Qbuzz in Groningen en Drenthe gaan rijden op waterstof van Shell. Op 24 juli maakt het OV-bureau Groningen Drenthe bekend dat Shell de aanbesteding voor het leveren van waterstof heeft gewonnen.
Het gaat om zogeheten groene waterstof. Groen wil zeggen dat deze waterstof wordt geproduceerd met duurzaam opgewekte stroom.
Schonere lucht
Het gebruik van waterstof voor de bussen in het openbaar vervoer draagt bij aan een schonere lucht en aan de regionale energiedoelen in Noord-Nederland. De waterstofbussen zullen rijden op streeklijnen in Groningen en Drenthe. Qbuzz streeft ernaar om in december 2020 twintig bussen voor het openbaar vervoer op waterstof te laten rijden.
Shell wil een actieve bijdrage leveren aan de energietransitie. In Nederland investeert Shell onder meer in windparken op zee, zonneparken, snellaadpalen op tankstations en het leveren van restwarmte aan de omgeving van Pernis. Daarnaast investeren we in duurzame brandstoffen voor transport zoals groene waterstof.

Green hydrogen from Shell for busses in two provinces in the Netherlands

Busses from bus operator Qbuzz in the provinces Groningen and Drenthe in the Netherlands will drive on hydrogen fuel from Shell. The public transport office ‘OV-bureau Groningen Drenthe’ announced that Shell won the tender to become their supplier of hydrogen fuel, on the 24th of July,
The label ‘green hydrogen’ refers to hydrogen that is produced using renewable power. Shell will produce the green hydrogen in its Rhineland refinery in Germany.
Cleaner Air
The use of hydrogen fuel for busses in public transport contributes to cleaner air and to the regional energy goals of the two provinces Groningen and Drenthe. The hydrogen busses will drive on regional lines in Groningen and Drenthe. Qbuzz strives to have 20 busses driving on hydrogen fuel in December 2020.
Shell wants to play an active role in the energy transition. In the Netherlands, among other things, Shell invests in wind parks at sea, solar energy parks, fast charging stations and the delivery of residual heat from the production processes in Pernis. Furthermore, we invest in sustainable fuels to be used for transport like green hydrogen.
